This comprehensive two-day continuing education training is designed for professionals who support individuals experiencing grief, loss, trauma, and bereavement. 

Led by a Certified Thanatologist, the program provides participants with practical, evidence-informed, and trauma-responsive approaches to grief support across healthcare, mental health, education, community, hospice, and crisis response settings.


Participants will explore contemporary grief theories, complicated grief, trauma-informed care, the relationship between grief and the nervous system, cultural considerations, communication skills, and grief across the lifespan. The training combines clinical knowledge with experiential learning through case studies, reflective exercises, group discussion, and skill-building activities.

Families and relationships are often far more complex than the traditional narratives surrounding death and grief. Estrangement, limited contact, family conflict, abuse histories, ambiguous relationships, and complicated emotional dynamics can deeply impact how individuals experience illness, dying, caregiving, grief, and mourning.

This training explores the nuanced realities of supporting individuals and families navigating deathcare within the context of limited, fractured, or no-contact relationships. Participants will learn how to provide compassionate, non-judgmental, trauma-informed support while recognizing that grief can coexist with relief, anger, guilt, confusion, resentment, love, or unresolved pain.

Through discussion, reflection, and practical guidance, this course examines communication, boundaries, family systems, ethical considerations, and the emotional complexities that arise when relationships are strained or absent at end of life.

Participants will gain tools to:

  • Support clients experiencing estrangement or family conflict 
  • Navigate difficult family dynamics during illness, dying, and after death 
  • Hold space for ambiguous and disenfranchised grief 
  • Recognize trauma responses and emotional triggers 
  • Maintain professional boundaries and neutrality

Students complete a capstone business plan and graduate with the confidence and competence to launch or grow a professional practice.

  

Ideal for those drawn to support individuals and families through the dying process—whether through personal calling, professional care, or spiritual service—this program blends compassion with purpose.  Pet Loss Doula Training is a compassionate educational program designed for those who wish to support individuals and families navigating the grief of losing a beloved animal companion. Rooted in both evidence-based grief education and holistic, heart-centered care, this training explores the emotional, spiritual, and practical aspects of pet loss support.


Participants will gain the knowledge and skills to hold space for anticipatory grief, euthanasia support, memorialization, 

after-death care conversations, and the unique bond between humans and animals. 


The program also explores communication, ritual, compassionate presence, and trauma-informed approaches to grief support.

Ideal for death doulas, grief practitioners, veterinary professionals, counselors, holistic caregivers, and animal lovers, this training offers meaningful tools to support others through one of life’s often overlooked yet deeply significant losses.


 Upon successful completion of this 4-week program, participants will receive a Certificate of Completion in Pet Loss Doula Training. Our Infant & Pregnancy Loss Doula Training is a compassionate, trauma-informed program designed to prepare doulas, birth workers, healthcare professionals, and holistic practitioners to support individuals and families experiencing miscarriage, stillbirth, infant loss, neonatal death, and other forms of reproductive grief.

This training blends evidence-based education with emotional, practical, and relational support skills to help participants provide grounded, heart-centered care during some of life’s most devastating experiences. Students will learn how to hold space for grief with sensitivity, navigate complex family dynamics, understand medical and legal considerations, and support memorialization, rituals, and ongoing bereavement care.

The course recognizes that pregnancy and infant loss impacts the whole person — emotionally, physically, spiritually, and socially — and equips participants to offer support that is compassionate, informed, and non-judgmental.

  Caregivers play a vital role in supporting loved ones through serious illness, end-of-life care, and other life transitions, yet their own emotional and practical needs are often overlooked. This Learning Institute session focuses on caregiver wellness and bereavement, exploring the unique challenges, grief, and stress that caregivers experience before, during, and after caregiving.

Participants will learn about the different types of grief caregivers may face, strategies to support their mental, emotional, and spiritual well-being, and practical tools to prevent burnout and promote resilience. The session emphasizes trauma-informed care, cultural humility, and spiritual responsiveness, helping participants recognize and honour diverse caregiving experiences while building supportive communities.

This session is designed for caregivers, healthcare professionals, hospice and palliative care providers, social workers, volunteers, and anyone who works with or supports caregivers.

Attendees can expect to leave with practical strategies, reflective tools, and actionable ideas to support and empower themselves and others through the grief and caregiving journey with awareness, compassion, and cultural humility.

By the end of this session, participants will be able to: 

  • Identify common types of grief experienced by both personal and professional caregivers, including anticipatory, ambiguous, and disenfranchised grief.
  • Apply trauma-informed and culturally responsive approaches when supporting caregivers through grief and bereavement.
  • Recognize signs of caregiver burnout, stress, and emotional distress, and implement strategies to address them.
  • Use practical tools and techniques to promote caregiver wellness, resilience, and self-care during and after caregiving.
